The Divide: Troy Avenue

In the neighborhood of Crown Heights Brooklyn there is a plethora of culture, religion and art among the people and architecture. Eastern parkway is the major roadway that cuts through the section, from one end to another. However, a mere 10 blocks, between Classon Avenue & Utica Avenue, show’s a clear divide between people, resources and infrastructure.

In 2010, of the residents in Crown Heights, roughly 75% were black, 19% were White, 4% were Hispanic and 2% were Asian and other ethnic groups. Crown Heights has also been known for its large West Indian (English speaking countries of the Caribbean) population as well. From 2010 to 2015, Crown Heights has seen a shift in racial demographic simultaneously has the infrastructure, parks and roads have seen a great improvement. Yet, these improvements are only visible in said areas that have seen the demographic shift. The notable divide being Troy Avenue & Eastern Parkway.
